The M3 "Grease Gun" is a civilian submachine gun that fires 9x19mm rounds from a 30-round detactable box magazine. It consists completely of grey metal, and has a stock on the back, similar to the CBJ-MS's. The design bears a reseamblance to a TEC-9 with a CBJ stock on the back. The ammo for this weapon looks very similar to the ammunition for a machine pistol.
Overview[]
The M3 is an average-quality weapon. It has the same damage as the MP5 or other 9x19mm guns. However, the ammo is much more common making the M3 a better choice for those who do not care about sights. It lacks the stopping power of the PPSH-41, the fire rate is much slower, and the PPSH-41 has five more bullets in the magazine. It would probably be ranked as the worst of the four submachine guns in the game, but it is still a strong weapon. It has a long range, as shown by the picture below. The info box in-game claims it to be medium range, but it can take out targets at long distances (e.g: top of Trinity HQ to the window of the purple house in a hamlet near it).
Since it is classified as a civilian-grade weapon, it mainly spawns in barns, houses, and at wooden barricades. The ammo for it can be found just about anywhere.
History[]
The American M3 was designed in 1942 and was produced from 1943 to 1945, for use in WWII by American soldiers. It was to fire the same .45 round the Thomponson fired but would cost less to make, would weigh less, and would be more accurate. It was intended to replace the Thompson in first line service between late 1944 and early 1945, but delays from production problems and approved specification charges made the M3 appear very little in combat. The M3 has earned the nickname "Grease Gun" or Greaser, as its resemblance to a mechanic's grease gun. The gun has one variant. That is the M3A1, which is an improved on M3. Also, many countries have used this gun or made their own variants of the M3. Even today, it is still widely used.
Trivia[]
- In real life, the standard grease gun fires .45 ACP rounds. This is probably due to balance reasons, seeing as the .45 ACP is a very strong round. But in real life, they gave soldiers kits to switch barrels and parts of the M3 to allow it to use the German 9 x 19mm bullet, from the MP40 during the WWII (1939 - 1945). So, it could use 9mm ammo.
- It is one of the only three civilian automatic weapons, the other two being the PPSH-41 and the Fedorov Avtomat.
- The M3 was able to mount sights, but this ability was removed shortly after v5.0.2 because the M3 wasn't supposed to mount sights.
- The Thompson sub machine gun was every soldiers' favorite primary during the Second World War, however, it was expensive and heavy with a rate of fire that was "high for no real reasons". In fact, in 1945, they made a gun called the Grease Gun M3 from scrap parts. The Thompson cost about 250$ dollars to manufacture each, with a lot of complicated parts to create, making it long to make. M3s cost 15$ each with very simple parts, lighter and it used the same ammo with also the ability to use 9mm ammo. It also had a reduced rate of fire, it helped the soldiers significantly when they were firing fully automatic, as soldiers could compensate for the recoil fast enough to have a light, accurate machine with a lot of power.
